As we move into the new year, career growth is top of mind for many across the workforce. Based on our January poll, most people felt their career ambitions have become more important. On March 3rd, the Dulye Leadership Experience presented a Culture Chat program on How to Grow Your Career in 2023. This program featured a blend of DLE members and newcomers joining in from diverse regions, industries, and positions.
The program kicked off with a live poll, asking participants what was the biggest factor holding them back from achieving a career goal. The majority responded with company politics, followed by lack of experience and fear of failure. Committee members Kaled Rocha and Krystle Blake kickstarted the discussion by sharing personal stories of their professional development. Kaled discussed his lateral move for more growth and finding a company that values employees’ goals. Krystle shared her story of transitioning to a managerial role to gain the necessary skills that enabled her to move on to her desired department as a manager.
Participants split up into breakout rooms to discuss the challenges they were facing in their careers, what career growth resources were being used, how to stay accountable for career development, and if participants had someone to discuss career growth with. A wide variety of talking points were brought up in the discussion. Many comments cited challenges related to industry experience.
The session concluded with these key takeaways:
- Utilize and expand your network to foster career growth
- Use resources you have to dive deeper into your career
- Find a company that values you and your growth.
Be sure to stay up to date with the DLE and the Culture Chat for compelling and interactive programming!
