January 21, 2025HOT RESOURCES: QUANTITY IS NO TROPHY FOR EVALUATING MEETINGS
January 21, 2025By Gabrielle Chisolm, Communications Intern, a junior majoring in English at the University of Maryland
Hello everyone! My name is Gabrielle Chisolm, and I am extremely thrilled to be joining the DLE team as a communications intern. I am a junior at the University of Maryland, College Park, and during my time at UMD, I have taken up quite an interest in all things communications, including journalism.
I have always taken notice of the crucial nature of the communications field. That’s why it is an extreme honor and privilege to now be a part of the DLE, an organization that focuses on communication in order to improve members’ overall confidence in the workplace. And the emphasis on networking is also important to me. As a college student, I am highly aware of the unpreparedness that many individuals feel when entering the workplace, and I admire the DLE’s mission to help individuals be better prepared and to achieve professional growth.
I grew up in Camp Springs, MD, not too far from Joint Base Andrews. As a child of two government employees, each working in different branches, I was exposed to the vastness of possibilities within the workplace. Some of my core memories include visiting my mother’s workplace in Washington, DC, during the summer. Because my great grandmother lived close to this workplace, I was able to spend a great amount of time with her during the summer. She taught me everything I know about my favorite hobby, baking.
At UMD, I take part in the Her Campus Media chapter, working as both a staff writer and copy editor, creating content designed to connect with the younger generation. I have the opportunity to network with many talented student journalists, which has made my college experience very memorable and worthwhile.
In my new role with the DLE, I plan to apply many of the skills I have gained through my involvement in student organizations. I am certain that these skills will be helpful as I conduct interviews and create content for the HUB newsletter and other DLE media platforms. I look forward to working with a talented team that is committed to making individuals more comfortable navigating professional settings!
