In addition to working with the DLE, our very own social media/marketing intern Maddie Beck is staying busy this summer and working as a digital writer for the Erie Canal Project in Syracuse, NY. This year marks the bicentennial since the construction of the Erie Canal, and with that comes countless celebrations and events to acknowledge its history.
For anyone looking to add some sizzle to their summer vacation plans, Maddie has compiled this list of amazing events, celebrations and venues to learn about the Erie Canal’s legacy:
- Visit the official Erie Canal Museum located in downtown Syracuse
- Participate in Beers, Bikes, and Barges guided bike tour along the new Empire State bike trail at these locations:
- July 25: Fayetteville
- August 1: Camillus
- August 8: Lockport
- August 15: Rochester
- August 22: Syracuse
- August 29: Troy
- September 12: Amsterdam
- September 19: Chittenango
- Take an Erie Canal Sightseeing Cruise through Lock 18
- Attend the 37th Annual Little Falls Canal Celebration on August 7-11 and the Sylvan Beach Canal Fest: August 9-11
- Join in the Waterford Tugboat Roundup on September 6-8
