In today’s workforce, career paths are almost never linear. Individuals rotate to different jobs to find employment that fulfills their needs. Changes in careers can happen for numerous reasons and always present new and fulfilling opportunities.
DLE newcomer member Alexis King is no stranger to change. She discovered the DLE through her friend and DLE Advisory Board member, Kalee Carmel. “The DLE was always in the back of my mind. When I relocated back to the Berkshires in 2019, I was still finding my path of where I wanted to go. I told Kalee that once I planted some roots and figured out what I wanted to be ‘when I grew up,’ I would branch out to the DLE.”
Fast forward several years, Alexis is an energetic and passionate DLE member. She currently balances three different jobs in three very different fields. During the day she works at the Berkshire Humane Society as their community outreach coordinator. Additionally, she is the assistant banquet manager at Mazzeo’s Ristorante, which will become her full-time position come August as their head banquet manager. Lastly, she recently started teaching yoga part-time at Radiance Yoga.
“I like change. I am afraid of getting stagnant with my career. I have never known exactly what I wanted to do, but through change I have found what I don’t want to do. I job hopped a lot, which may be looked at in a negative way, but it wasn’t for me. Every job I have had has led me to this point.”
On top of Alexis’s various jobs, she also attends graduate school at Westfield State University, working toward a master’s degree in both student adjustment counseling and licensed mental health counseling. “I have always loved working with kids. My long-term career goal would be to become a student adjustment counselor.”
Alexis’s community involvement is one of her greatest passions. She joined the DLE in part as a way to support the community. “When I returned to the area, I dove headfirst into this community. Being a part of the DLE will allow me to take my skills and apply them to the area. I want to help build up Berkshire County where I can.”
The DLE enthusiastically welcomes Alexis and looks forward to more of her amazing contributions!
