June 12, 2024Seeking Career Success? Follow the DLE Flight Path
Since 2008, the Dulye Leadership Experience (DLE) has been a flight academy for developing the next generation of leaders essential for uplifting companies and communities in its homebase of the Berkshires and well beyond.
Thousands have grown critical skills and connections through year-round, fee-free professional development programs that have been underwritten and managed by DLE Founder Linda Dulye. The enduring vision that has guided the success of this unique philanthropic organization can be summed up in two words: keep soaring.
The DLE flight plan for soaring, personally and professionally, has four steps.
- See. Observe what is happening around you with eyes wide open. To find opportunities, you need to proactively look for them.
- Stretch. Step out of your comfort zone to gain a variety of life experiences in different fields. Dismiss debilitating fears about failing. Setbacks bring learning that fuels forward progress.
- Seize. Raise your hand to new roles and projects where you can learn from and about others. Find a mentor who can offer valuable advice and introductions that can lead to new opportunities.
- Speak. Initiate intentional, device-free conversations powered by small talk, inquiry and recognition of others who help you grow.
Take flight through the power of these four steps. Challenge yourself to practice each one. For example, for step 1–SEE–dedicate daily practice time to visually study a setting or situation that has been routine, e.g., a walk with your dog, the drive to work, a virtual staff meeting. Disconnect earbuds. Lift your head. Turn on the camera. Study activities happening right in front of you and get curious. What and who can you learn from?
Remember: We cannot become what we need to be by remaining who we are.
