WELCOME SOCIAL MEDIA/MARKETING INTERN, MADELYN BECK
By Madelyn Beck, Social Media/Marketing Intern, Senior at Syracuse University
My name is Madelyn Beck, but I typically go by Maddie. I am so thrilled to be joining the DLE team as the newest Social Media/Marketing Intern.
I am an incoming senior at Syracuse University, studying Magazine, News, and Digital Journalism in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Additionally, I have a minor in the iSchool, where I study Information Management and Technology, primarily focusing on front-end web development.
I grew up in Buffalo, NY, and for the longest time thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life…and that was musical theater. However, when it came to applying for schools, I decided to take a different direction and ended up taking classes and learning about things that I never thought I would be interested in, but have since fallen in love with.
Aside from my schoolwork, I like to keep busy and incorporate the arts into my college experience. I am involved in Oy Cappella, a primarily Jewish coed a cappella group at Syracuse. We perform multiple times throughout a semester, and I am often noted in the program for arranging some of the music that we perform and choreographing our set.
I also hold a position at the Barnes Center, the main gym on my college campus. Here, I work as a Guest Services Supervisor, where my responsibilities include coordinating and running staff meetings, customer service, and communicating important information from my superiors to general attendants.
In addition to my role with the DLE this summer, I will be working as a Digital Reporting intern through The Newshouse in Syracuse. There I will be reporting on the start of the Erie Canal Project and assisting in the production of a website documenting a series of Erie Canal related podcasts.
Though I am new to this position and organization, I already feel so welcome and cannot wait to grow both my marketing and professional skills. I am so grateful for this incredible opportunity and am looking forward to seeing my growth throughout my time here!
WELCOME COMMUNICATIONS INTERN, ALLISON RINEHART
By Allison Rinehart, Communications Intern, Senior at Clark University
Hello DLE!
My name is Allison Rinehart, and I am an incoming senior studying English and Theatre Arts at Clark University. I am also planning to study for a fifth-year masters degree in Communication through Clark’s Advanced Degree Program.
Through my studies, I have developed advanced skills in writing, communicating, and editing. I usually am writing essays, articles, and creative work, but I wanted to be able to expand my experience into a professional setting: This is what led me to DLE. Being able to work with fellow young professionals in a setting devoted to exactly that purpose made me feel that my voice would be valued and held to a high standard.
Through my most recent experience as a Communications Intern for the human rights nonprofit Verité, I wrote and marketed content for a specific brand audience. I was able to research and present on emerging topics in the field and learn about the shifts technology is causing within that. I also run a small online business selling vinyl and antiques, which has given me direct experience with sales, management, and social media. My campus leadership roles at Clark’s Amateur Hour Improv Troupe and Sigma Tau Delta (English Honor Society) have given me experience in developing agendas for and running meetings, as well as planning events.
During my time with the DLE, I look forward to further building my writing skills, as well as interacting directly with a targeted audience. I will develop skills in interviewing leaders and innovators from different career fields and be able to learn directly from them. This organization places a great focus on both the personal and professional development of its members, and it is that culture that interested me in the DLE and made me eager to learn in this new environment.
I have already had a great experience with the team and am excited to do more. I look forward to going on this journey with DLE!
