August 25, 2021NEW MEMBER KEVIN SAUM BECOMES A SPORTS INJURY ACTIVIST AFTER HIS OWN SEVERE BRAIN INJURY
August 25, 2021DLE Founder Linda Dulye and DLE Advisory Board Member Marcus Coleman stir up a lively exchange on the popular Heads ‘N’ Tales podcast, hosted by Kevin Saum, with stories about transitioning, personally and professionally, after a major setback.
Titled “Taking Ownership of Your Life After Sports,” the podcast’s central theme is helping athletes move forward after career-ending injuries. The conversation delivers concrete tips for confronting the unexpected and moving forward.
Marcus experienced a career-ending injury while playing football at Syracuse University. At the time, the DLE had an affiliation with Syracuse in providing development opportunities for undergraduates to transition from college to the workplace. Marcus earned a scholarship to the DLE’s annual retreat in 2016 and has been intimately involved with the organization ever since.
Notes Kevin, “Marcus’s story was a perfect fit for the Heads ‘N Tales podcast because of his medical disqualification from football and his professional transformation to life after sport, which was catalyzed by his experience with the DLE. After speaking with Marcus, it is obvious how much the DLE has helped his professional growth.”
He adds, “From what I can see, Marcus now oozes confidence and is very impressive! I know any athlete who retires from their sports can greatly benefit from working with the DLE and Linda.”
