DLE POLL ON SUMMER PLANS TRIGGERS BIGGEST RESPONSE
June 9, 2021FOR GUARANTEED SUMMER FUN, TUNE INTO JEEB’S PLAYLIST
June 9, 2021By Kyle Dutton, DLE Marketing and Membership Intern, Undergraduate at Syracuse University
I’m currently a junior at Syracuse University, majoring in Finance and Marketing with a minor in Economics.
Recently I took a leap of faith with my family and migrated to Seattle during the midst of the pandemic, mainly to explore new life-changing opportunities. This wasn’t easy as there was a lot going on in the background when it came to COVID-related things. But I took it upon myself to ensure that this move was totally worth it and not just done for the sake of it.
Whether it’s the authentic multi-cuisine food or tall skyscrapers, Seattle makes me feel like home. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for me since this was quite a big move, but I’m positive that it is going to be a great one!
With that being said and done, I decided to expand my scope, be more adventurous, try new things and on top of all of that, broaden my sense of knowledge in the field of marketing by applying for an internship with the DLE.
Since receiving the great news–after interviewing for the position–that I had been selected, I had the opportunity to attend my first DLE program this month. While participating in the Culture Chat conversation, I found myself surrounded by amazing people who want to keep pushing forward in the right direction. The atmosphere was like a magnet for me. Not only do I want to showcase my skills here, I want to challenge myself and get the most out of this DLE experience!
Challenges excite me. I’ve always been a fan of track and field. In 2017, I had the chance to participate in the U-19 National Track Open held in India. My dedicated training program paid off. I earned the highest spot on the podium in the 100-meter race. I found myself in love with a sport that I not only enjoy, but am truly passionate about. Track has helped me cope through the tough times, grow to be a better person and be more successful in my community.
Over the past year, I’ve set out to gain new skills and get certified in courses such as Microsoft Excel to make me a more valuable asset. For fun, I’m a huge fan of the NBA—in particular, the LA Lakers. After their amazing and successful season last year, I’m hoping they’ll show their worth again and secure another win this year!
The reasons I chose to major in Finance and Marketing were quite simple. When it comes to finance, I’ve always been attracted to data analytics, a field that bridges the scientific aspects and business aspects of things.
On the other hand, marketing is a field of study that encourages me to think outside the box. In addition, it’s a field that provides long-term opportunities in comparison to many other fields of study. The main reason why I enjoy working in these fields is because of how diverse and dynamic the surrounding environment is.
In the future, I’m hoping to secure a position either as a data analyst, financial advisor, marketing manager or a marketing research analyst.
I’m really looking forward to this wonderful opportunity here at DLE. I can’t wait to put my skills to good use and showcase my talent within this field and also to learn and grow overall as an individual.
