December 9, 2020MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: NETWORKING HIS WAY TO A NEW JOB
December 9, 2020Emma Braun, a senior at Syracuse University majoring in marketing and finance, with a minor in psychology, has joined DLE as a winter intern. During her tenure, she will gain experience in event planning, social media and program marketing.
Emma’s network opened the door for this new learning opportunity. She was recommended by her friend Sudeep Penmesta, who created the DLE YouTube Channel and expanded our social media as a DLE intern last summer. Now, one week into her new role, Emma shares, “I’m extremely excited to expand not only my network but to challenge myself in helping to grow the DLE network!”
A member of the women’s varsity rowing team, Emma credits time in the boat with providing solid life lessons. “I began rowing when I was a freshman in high school, and my love for the sport has stayed with me through two seasons of collegiate competition. Rowing has taught me endless lessons that I could never learn anywhere else. It has helped me be more successful in the classroom, the workplace and in my community.”
She adds, “With rowing you can see immediate improvement in your performance. The more time you put into the sport, the better you get.”
In addition to rowing, Emma enjoys baking. Earlier this year, during quarantine, she started a baking instagram called @brauns_bites. Her culinary repertoire is wide and growing. “I particularly enjoy baking desserts like scones and pastries. But I’ve expanded to making homemade bagels and other savory treats.”
Emma doesn’t shy away from stepping out of her comfort zone and taking on a new challenge. She recalls that last summer, when a scheduled internship was cancelled, she took a job as a food delivery biker for UberEats. “It was a challenging job at times – after all, fitting a large pizza into a backpack isn’t easy,” she recalls. “But I found it rewarding and it was a great way to expend my energy while getting paid!”
A native of Philadelphia, Emma is an avid Eagles fan—despite their disappointing NFL season. She has already lined up an internship for Summer 2021 with Synchrony Bank. “I’m waiting to hear whether this will be virtual or in-person,” she says. “Regardless, I am grateful for the opportunity and excited to learn.”
