December 9, 20202021 brings a new career adventure to multi-year DLE Retreat Alum David Bell, who has been promoted to a Chief of Staff role at Wipro (parent company of Topcoder).
In his new position, David reports directly to Angan Guha, CEO of the United States and Canada for Banking, Capital Markets, Insurance, Manufacturing, Hi-Tech, Energy & Utilities and Canada. Explaining his new focus, David says, “This role includes responsibilities at a tactical, strategic and operational level, often handling the oversight of projects that do not neatly fit within the organizational chart or that fall between departments’ or leaders’ areas of responsibility. I’ll also be actively involved in Wipro’s major reorganization in January 2021.”
A graduate of Syracuse University, David began his career working in both start-up and corporate environments at Seeking Alpha and GEICO. After earning his MBA from New York University, David was selected for the Wipro Global 100 Program–an MBA-level, management development program that provides international exposure to sales and delivery of IT-based solutions across multiple industries.
David credits his career success to continuous networking. He cites the guidance that he received from the DLE for helping him begin his career with confidence and build a network of highly motivated colleagues.
“One of the key takeaways from the beginning of the DLE was learning about the importance of Brand-You,” he recalls. “Supporting the career advancement of others and listening to their inspiring stories can really help you learn about unique scenarios that you can apply to your career, even if it is in a completely different industry.”
Asked for a recommended reading, David suggests Swipe to Unlock. “This book provides a great background of many of the day-to-day uses of technology broken into simple pieces. It features a glossary of programming languages, software development terms and descriptions of roles at tech companies.”
An avid fan of the outdoors, David enjoys water skiing and ice hockey, as well as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He and his wife, Nataly, live in New York City.
